Andrew Pollack,Ornaments and Vessels

In this class students will be working with borosilicate glass learning the basics of blowing glass on a torch. We will blow glass off the end of a tube, and also discuss and practice “pulling points” from larger tubes. We will then put a hook on or flatten the bottom on the various hollow forms that we blow to create our very own ornaments and small vessels. Plan to have a lot of fun, learn a lot, break some glass, and make some beautiful one-of-a-kind hollow forms.

Jodie McDougal, Making Your Mark

Learn the basics of building murrine cane by creating your initial in glass. One of the best ways to sign your work has always been to create a signature or initial cane. Murrine is an ancient process of creating a rod in glass that has an image that runs the length of the cane. It can then be pulled to a smaller diameter and used to create fine details in a small space. Techniques translate to borosilicate glass. jodiemcdougallstudios.com

Janice Peacock - Social Media Marketing for Creative People
After publishing her first novel in 2014, Janice Peacock has spent much of the last two years learning all she could about social media marketing, one of the best ways for authors—and any creative person—to promote themselves. This workshop will begin with a discussion on why having a social networking presence is important in today’s online world and how social media marketing
can help you grow the number of potential customers interested in buying your work. Students will be introduced to several of the most important social media sites that every creative person should be part of, which ones to avoid, how to optimally set up an online presence, and how to automate the process of participating in several online communities. If you are new to social media and
aren’t sure how to begin, or are looking for ways to optimize your online presence,
you don’t want to miss this seminar! www.janicepeacock.com

Karen van Staden, International Instructor ,  Magic Florals
This instructor has been keeping the way she makes her flowers in floral beads secret for a few years now, and students are so fortunate that she is finally sharing the technique at the 2018 Gathering. The
flowers are more life-like than the normal opaque dotted florals that you see most people make. This will change the way you make flowers in your beads forever. This workshop requires you to be an advanced beginner to intermediate lampworker and the instructor will cover the following: making floral cane, stamen cane, and latticino using filligrana, applications for these techniques, encasing, and ways to ensure you can make the perfect olive shaped bead. As a bonus, you’ll apply a butterfly
murrini to your bead, made by the instructor! www.lampworx.co.za
