Andrew Pollack
Borosilicate Glass Pendants
Students will learn how to make borosilicate glass pendants. We will be adding color to
clear glass to exploring the concept of making a lens to magnify the detail we will be
including. Andrew will demonstrate a variety of ways to make hook, bails, and holes. We
will be using clear and colored rod, millefiori, latticino, twists, and other components.
We will discuss implosions and compressions, in addition to millefiori history,
techniques, and application. This class will include both demonstration and hands-on
practice. This class can be taken on its own or in preparation for the Detailed Aquarium
scene pendant class.

Drops, Dangles, Charms
This class will expand your thinking about working off-mandrel
to make drops, dangles, and charms. Using a variety of fun colors
we will explore hand and mold shaping. These are stand alone
components or the perfect accompaniment to the work you already
do. We will also explore looking at your presses and/or bead rollers
in a different way. I will be introducing two relatively new tools, the
duckbill mandrel and the CG bead roller push mold.
The focus of the class will be working off-mandrel on wire. We will
be making shanks using copper and stainless steel wire. We will
use the duckbill mandrel and push molds to create hand and mold
shaped drops, dangles, and charms.

Elevate Your Glass Art (Beadstands for Beadmakers)
Like a painting looks far better with the right picture frame, so can yourglass art. Whether sculptural or a traditionally shaped jewelry bead on display, this class of designing and making artistic beadstands helps you take your bead presentation up a few notches and show it off as a complete art piece. In the class, we’ll make the beads and their glass beadstands in a way to reinforce your artistic voice and what you are wanting to convey. We’ll focus a lot on design and the why certain aspects are chosen as well as heat control, which is always a major focus of my
classes. Techniques are not just sculpture, but also includes dots, encased canes, color mixing, stringer control, use of some tools that you might normally use other ways and others will be covered. We’ll even do one offmandrel stand which is a tip of the hat to mid-century modern Murano glass artists. When you are done, you’ll
have new skills, a new way of presenting your art and some new techniques as well. Most of all, we’ll have fun while you are being challenged. Come ready to think a little differently and learn.

Toolbox of jewelry skills - 1/2 day
Sponsored by Halstead
We all have beads—lots and lots of beads! In this approachable and
fun workshop event, you will learn basic jewelry skills that turn boxes
of beads into wearable—and sellable—finished pieces. Moving through a rotation of different stations staffed by Knowledgeable instructors, participants will receive hands-on instruction that requires minimal effort and financial investment. Learn how to combine Halstead’s sterling silver chain, findings and components with your glass work to create long-lasting, high-value jewelry. You will need to bring your own beads. We will only have small selection to work with. Learn a simple chain for interchangeable beads, how to wrap head pins and assemble earrings, the basics of proper crimping and crimp covers, and more! You will leave with handouts and supply lists to pursue these skills in your own studio.
