Gay Massender,International Instructor - Creating Depth and Detail with Enamel and Stringer
The first of three beads to be created in this exciting workshop will be Moonlight Tree. Students will prepare a variety stringer and enameled stringers, before working with glass and enamel to build a base bead. Then encasing techniques will be used to add depth, before applying surface decoration. The second bead will be a Kimono Love Bird. Using some of the techniques employed in the first bead, students will make the Kimono Love Bird inspired by Kimono fabric and murrini cane using Effetre glass, Thompson enamel and stringer. For this bead, encasing techniques will be used as they give added depth, and then surface decoration will be applied for completion. The final bead is the Landscape Scene. This bead will build upon the skills explored in earlier work. In addition, students will begin to explore the possibilities for adding further colour to their work through the use of enamelled stringer. www.gaysiemay.etsy.com

Davide PensoSpecial Guest Instructor - Blowing Glass at the Torch
Find great new inspiration or continued passion from this amazing international instructor. In this one-day workshop using the traditional technique of the furnace but accomplished with a “baby pipe,” students will first learn the art of blowing simple transparent beads and then move to additional shapes and interesting applied designs. Students will understand the blowing process, shaping, encasing, zig-zag spiral and symmetric patterns, use of frit, and much more! Davide Penso is a master artisan. His work is reflective of his passion for glass, and he approaches it with both challenge and amusement. He believes that rather than simply “working” in glass, he allows the glass to mold him through its many characteristics. This workshop is a unique opportunity to experience the art of Venetian-style glass bead blowing and is not to be missed. www.davidepenso.com

Shirley Cook - More Adventures in Fiber: The Bonny Bag
Looking for ways to show off your glass beads? Want an accessory that’s a bit different from jewelry? Look no further! In this full-day class, you will create a wet-felted bag by making flat felt with wool and silk over a resist. You can even incorporate non-felting fibers, fabrics, ribbons, and yarns into the felt for additional surface design possibilities. And finally, you’ll make a long cord as a shoulder strap for your bag. Once your bag is dry, you can embellish it with beads and buttons to your heart’s content. The instructor will provide the fibers, you’ll bring along your imagination, creativity, and arm muscles. www.jumpingjackglass.com

Janice Peacock - Social Media Marketing for Creative People
After publishing her first novel in 2014, Janice Peacock has spent much of the last two years learning all she could about social media marketing, one of the best ways for authors—and any creative person—to promote themselves. This workshop will begin with a discussion on why having a social networking presence is important in today’s online world and how social media marketing
can help you grow the number of potential customers interested in buying your work. Students will be introduced to several of the most important social media sites that every creative person should be part of, which ones to avoid, how to optimally set up an online presence, and how to automate the process of participating in several online communities. If you are new to social media and
aren’t sure how to begin, or are looking for ways to optimize your online presence,
you don’t want to miss this seminar! www.janicepeacock.com

Julie Couch,  Painting with Glass in the Flame: Watercolor Style Beads
Using the bead surface as your canvas, you will learn how to create watercolor style designs. This technique teaches how to “paint” with molten glass, mix the colors on the surface of the bead, “draw” with fine stringers and apply enamels. The final effect is a loose, painterly style. Through demonstrations, instruction and plenty of hands-on-work, students will have the opportunity to explore this technique and hopefully develop it further to reflect their own style, whether it be animals, flowers, landscapes, faces......the path is open. www.juliecouch.co.uk
