We Love to Share!

One of the wonderful things at the Gathering is getting to share your latest creations. That "Beader's handshake": 'Ooohhhhh, did you make that?' To recreate this, we will offer two 'Show & Tell' sessions in which you get to show your work and talk about it with a group of like minded glassy friends.

Online Learning

2020 dramatically accelerated an already-growing movement towards online arts education. Nearly overnight, and in the midst of a world-wide pandemic that was already radically changing our social and professional lives, artist instructors were forced to navigate the complexities of taking their teaching practices online – often alone and without access to helpful resources. One year later, what have we learned and where are we heading? As instructors, how can we offer a quality learned experience to our students? As students, how can we get the most out of the online classes we take? Join metalsmith Francesca Watson for a wide-ranging discussion of her experience growing an engaged online community of more than 3400 student members, including recommendations for building a robust online teaching practice; partnering with vendors or sponsors; hosting workshops alone or in conjunction with studio or event programming; and more.

Making Molds

For the past 30 years, Luminar Glass Products and its parent company ZIRCAR Refractory Composites, Inc. has been making tools for artists who work in glass and bronze. We have created state of the art materials for bead making, mold making and fusing. We have worked with artists like Leslie Rowe-Israelson and Melanie Rowe to refine our materials and enhance each artists experience. Our presentation will include an in-depth description of our materials and what makes them unique (light weight, strong, reusable, ect.) and a demonstration regarding how to use them.
